CHARGING AND STARTING SYSTEMS

Don't let a weak charging or starting system leave you stranded. The alternator is what charges the battery in your vehicle and either one of these can cause your vehicle not to start. A weak alternator can put extra strain on the battery and wear it out prematurely.

When your charging system is working properly it sends power to the starter which turns the engine over to get it started. When the starter or starter solenoid goes out the engine can not rotate to start.

02

IGNITION SYSTEM

The ignition system consists of a control module, ignition coil, distributor, spark plug wires and spark plugs. On newer vehicles a distributorless ignition system is used with a idividual ignition coil or coil pack on each spark plug. On some vehicles 2 spark plugs share one coil pack. Usually a tune-up will prevent more expensive problems for the ignition system. Problems can cause either a cylinder to misfire or the vehicle to not run at all.

03

FUEL SYSTEM

The fuel system consists of the fuel pump assembly, fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and fuel injectors or carberators on older vehicles. Problems with the fuel system can cause the vehicle to not start or run.
